Mr. Roderick Allen "Mac" McGlohon, Sr., age 78 of Rocky Mount, NC, went home to meet his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2015 at Nash Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Willard, NC, conducted by Pastor Gary Blood. There will be a visitation from 5:30-7:00 pm on April 1, 2015 at Englewood Assembly of God in Rocky Mount, NC.
Rod is survived by his son, Allen McGlohon and wife Gayle of Rocky Mount, NC, his daughter, Dawn McGlohon and husband Jim King of Rocky Mount, NC; two grandsons, Patrick McGlohon of Rocky Mount, NC and Luke King of Rocky Mount, NC and his sister, Jeanette McMillan of Wilmington, NC. "Uncle Rod" will be missed by his niece, Karen McMillan Brown, husband Jeff and son Jason of Lynchburg, VA and nephews, David McMillan, wife Lisa and daughters Kayla and Brooke of Watha, NC and Tom Smith and children Elliott and Alex of Rose Hill, NC. Also left to cherish Mac's memory is special friend, Lynda Burgess of Clayton, NC.
He was born on September 22, 1936 in Pitt County to the late Soloman Allen and Aileene Pittman McGlohon. He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Smith McGlohon.
Rod graduated from Penderlea High School in 1954 and joined the U. S. Army where he served in the Signal Corps in Korea. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Geraldine Smith of Harrells, and began a long career as a telephone equipment installer and engineer. The McGlohon family moved often in those early years, living in 36 different towns and 12 states until settling permanently in Rocky Mount, NC in 1967. Rod coached Little League Baseball, girls' softball and was an active member of Marvin United Methodist Church. After he retired from Sprint in 1998, Rod moved back to Pender County to plow the beloved black dirt of his Penderlea homestead. He rejoined his boyhood church, Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church. As a gentleman farmer, Rod also tended to his pecan trees, blueberry bushes, cats and bees, while allowing plenty of time for fishing, hunting and traveling. Rod especially enjoyed many hours in his boat on the river with his favorite fishing partner, Bill Robbins, and with his children and grandsons. He tried to teach them everything he knew. He made sure to instill a love of the outdoors by spending as much time with his grandsons, of whom he was so proud. He also adored and spoiled his dogs, Jake and Rambo.
The family would like to thank Ginny Bass and Thelma Wood who became part of our family this past year. They would also like to thank the congregation of Englewood Assembly of God, therapists and the 5th floor nursing staff at Nash Hospital for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a memorial in Roderick's memory to a charity or church of your choice.
