Mrs. Doris Carolyn Blanchard Brooks, age 86 of Wallace, NC, passed away November 7, 2014, at Rosemary Rest Home in Rose Hill, NC. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Wallace, NC, conducted by Dr. Alan Thompson. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by a son, Vance Brooks and wife Cindy of Wilmington, NC, and a daughter, Theresa B. Elias and husband Anthony of Wallace, NC; two grandsons, John Brooks and wife Suzanne of Hillsboro, OR, and Charles Elias and wife Angie of Wilmington, NC; three granddaughters, Jennifer Minter and husband Eric of Wilmington, NC, Carolyn Elias of Atlanta, GA, and Devon Register and husband Charlie of Teachey, NC; three great grandchildren, Bynum Brooks and Shepard Brooks of Hillsboro, OR, and Skylar Register of Teachey, NC, a brother, Ward Blanchard and wife Joyce of Wallace, NC, and a sis-in-law, Catherine Blanchard of Wallace, NC.
Born January 18, 1928, in Duplin County, NC, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late Ward Caswell Blanchard and Pearl Carr Blanchard and was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles V. Brooks, III, two brothers, Kenneth Blanchard and William Blanchard and two sisters, Betty Hawes and Mary Catherine Horne.
Doris loved God, her family, and country. She grew up in Rockfish Presbyterian Church, later becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Wallace. She served on the Diaconate, as Treasurer, on the Board of Trustees, as GA leader, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She worked as her husband's bookkeeper and owned and operated Rockfish Memorial Cemetery for 28 years. She enjoyed playing in the same bridge club for over 50 years. She was a long time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as regent for 4 years. Doris loved working in her yard, gardening, sewing, and taking care of her family. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
